Best Deodorants for Sensitive Skin

Our List of the Best Deodorants for Sensitive Skin

Like many people, I unfortunately suffer from sensitive skin. I try to avoid most skin care products because they nearly always cause some form of irritation. It’s quite frustrating being limited to specific skin care and it’s mainly because they contain harmful ingredients that cause skin irritation such as redness, itchiness and rashes too.

Deodorant is a must have and luckily there’s a wide range of them specially formulated for sensitive skin. I’ve tested a variety of deodorants and found that Each & Every Natural deodorant was the best deodorant for sensitive skin.

I’ve been using Each and Every Natural deodorant for the past 6 months and so far have almost no complaints. It’s been soft and gentle on my skin and speaking for my underarms I had forgotten I had sensitive skin in the first place.

For the benefit of this guide I’ve tested a variety of deodorants for at least a two week period. My recommended deodorants for sensitive skin is based on price, effectiveness, and how well they worked at not irritating my skin.

Every deodorant I’ve reviewed does not contain any ingredients that cause irritated skin. Things such as parabens, alcohol, aluminum and baking soda have all been excluded from this list so you can be sure that whatever you choose it will be gentle on your skin.

Each & Every Natural Aluminum-Free Deodorant

Editors Favorite

I do admit this deodorant is more expensive although it’s fantastic for sensitive skin. If you’re on a budget skip to the next review because I’ve made sure to include my favorite budget friendly deodorant for sensitive skin.

Each and every is fragrance free, formulated using 6 clean ingredients, utilising essential oils for a fresh and natural smell that I absolutely loved. I loved the flavour of citrus and Vetiver because it’s pungent but in a good way. I personally think this has to be the best deodorant for sensitive skin because it uses natural ingredients such as shea butter, coconut oil, tea tree and a variety of essential oils.

In terms of its effectiveness as a deodorant, I never noticed any poor body odour and while there was small amounts of sweat it’s completely normal when using a natural deodorant. This deodorant is board certified and so you can trust what they state is the truth and I found I never had the need to switch to another deodorant as I was always sweet smelling and the odour was masked.

Each and every is obviously free of such things as aluminum, parabens and because of this you’ll never have to worry about clothing stains again.

Last but not least this deodorant is soft on the plant, being vegan and cruelty free you can trust it’s soft on the planet

Pros
  • Completely natural
  • Perfect for sensitive skin
  • Cruelty free
  • Exceptional scents
  • Strong protection against odour
  • Plant Based
Cons
  • It’s a little expensive

Almay Sensitive skin Clear Gel, Anti-Perspirant & Deodorant

2nd Best Choice

I call this the best budget friendly deodorant for sensitive skin. It’s a lot cheaper than the alternatives I’ve recommended because usually it’s more expensive to produce products for sensitive skin but luckily almay figured it out.

I used this deodorant for a total of 3 weeks and in that time I generally only have good things to say about it. It does a good job at neutralizing odors although it’s a gel not a deodorant stick.

Per the description I found it worked at preventing my sweat for about 24 hours. It’s free of ingredients such as aluminum, fragrances, baking soda plus it has a good formula that smells pleasant. This isn’t a natural deodorant but I never experienced irritation and it’s biggest benefit is that it acts as an antiperspirant deodorant.

This means it clogs your skin’s sweat glands, preventing any sweat from being produced. Because of this the bacteria on your skin never mixes with your sweat and subsequently never produces any bad body odor. This is one of the best deodorants for sensitive skin if you’re on a budget.

Pros
  • Very affordable
  • Stops sweat
  • Stops odour
  • 24 hour protection
  • Very affective
Cons
  • Not Completely Natural
  • Scent is average

dove advanced care sensitive

3rd Best Choice

I’ve found dove to be a great deodorant brand that keeps my underarms dry with a fresh scent. It’s long lasting and it’s formula works well to neutralize odor without irritating my skin. It’s great for those with sensitive skin and not too expensive either.

Of course it skips the more controversial ingredients, It’s aluminum free, fragrance free and baking soda free. I’m not sure if they use coconut oil but it sure does smell like it. I enjoyed the scent all though it probably wasn’t as good as each and every.

It actually smells as an antiperspirant deodorant so you won’t have to worry about sweating unlike natural deodorants. How it works is that odor causing bacteria when mixed with your body’s sweat causing bad smells from your underarm. Another added benefit is that it’s dry touch so your armpit won’t be wet.

This is a great deodorant for sensitive skin and the only drawback is that the smell is a bit average but it does a great job at stopping the stink and staying sweat free.

Pros
  • Baking Soda Free
  • Affordable
  • Infused as an antiperspirant
Cons
  • Not entirely natural
  • Average scent

CRYSTAL Mineral Deodorant Stick

Crystal mineral all natural deodorants are certainly one of the best for sensitive skin. They’re free of irritants such as baking soda, aluminum, and parabens. Instead using natural minerals combined with water to neutralize odor and keep you smelling at your best.

I chose to include the unscented version to reduce the chance of any forms of irritation although their scented types work well on sensitive skin. Their formula is developed from natural minerals to create an invisible barrier around your skin preventing you from sweating.

When you don’t sweat odor causing bacteria can’t mix in and create bad bodily smells. I personally loved their tea tree version and unfortunately they don’t produce any sprays. I found crystal Mineral antiperspirant deodorants to work for around 24 hours. They are a little expensive but you’re paying for deodorant that works effectively without causing irritation.

Just remember when using crystal deodorant that you mix it well with water because that’s how you get the formula to properly dry your underarm and allows you to smell fresh.

Pros
  • Unique formula
  • 24 hour protection
  • Stops sweat
  • Unscented formula stops bad odor well
  • Lasts a long time
  • Cruelty Free
  • Vegan
Cons
  • More expensive
  • You must mix it with water before use

Schmidt's Aluminum Free Natural Deodorant

Schmidt’s aluminum free deodorant is still one of the best antiperspirants for sensitive skin, it uses my favorite natural fragrance which is tea tree and is baking soda free. It utilizes natural ingredients such as essential oils or shea butter and best of this deodorant is dry touch so your underarms won’t stay wet for long.

I found it worked well for preventing odor and overall I have few complaints. Some customers complained that it isn’t very effective at preventing sweat but they all agreed it smelled great and stopped odor. This deodorant is board certified and preventing sweat from ever mixing with odor causing bacteria.

Unfortunately it doesn’t contain any real antiperspirant qualities so while you won’t exactly stay dry because it doesn’t use things such as aluminum. It never stained my clothes and reading other reviews people liked it but felt sweat was too prevalent.

Pros
  • Animal Friendly
  • Vegan
  • Perfect for sensitive skin
Cons
  • Some customers complained it’s didn’t prevent sweating

ARM & HAMMER Essentials Natural Deodorant

I’ve used this brand of deodorant on and off over the years when I’m not writing reviews.  It’s a great antiperspirant deodorant for sensitive skin with a unique fragrance. It’s formula is effective and of course it’s aluminum free. You can consider this type a hypoallergenic deodorant as well, because the ingredients used are non toxic and perfect to keep you dry all day long.

Its formula is particularly effective at preventing poor odor and I only wished it came as a spray as well. If you like a deodorant that’s affordable and won’t irritate your skin, Arm and Hammer are good choices.

Pros
  • Affordable
  • Trusted Brand
  • Effective formula
Cons
  • Some customers dislike the scent

Vanicream Antiperspirant Deodorant for sensitive skin

If you’re unfortunate enough to suffer from sensitive skin and excessive sweating. This is one of the few deodorants that is clinical strength without irritating your skin. It is not a natural formula but if other deodorants designed for sensitive skin haven’t been working Vanicream is your best choice.

It’s special formula is free of aluminum and contains ingredients produced in a lab although none of them will irritate your skin in any way. It’s smell is average at best but what it truly excels at is stopping excessive sweating.

Pros
  • Most effective at stopping sweating
  • Clinical Strength
  • Designed for sensitive skin
Cons
  • Expensive per bottle

Is Baking Soda In Deodorant Bad?

Some people experience natural deodorant from irritating your skin, you would have thought that wouldn’t be possible but baking soda can very easily cause irritation. It does this because increasing the PH of your skin will turn it more dry. It can stop the skin of important oils and break down acid that your skin uses to keep it protected from infection and breakouts.

What Ingredients In Deodorant Cause Irritation?

The most common are preservatives in deodorant that cause irritation. Parabens are slowly being excluded but they’re still common enough and another common reason. Aluminum or baking soda are other very common ingredients used in deodorant that nearly always irritate those with sensitive skin. Aluminum blocks the sweat glands which is a controversial subject.

Why Does My Deodorant Make Me Itch?

Your deodorant making you itch is usually because something within it is irritating your skin. Finding out what ingredients you can’t apply is your first step. Trying a hypoallergenic or sensitive skin deodorant is the best first step. It’s more common in colder months when the skin is already too dry.
